Louth get ready for league with practice match v Wicklow

It was great to see an Inter County match being played albeit a practice match.  The match was played in four  20 minute periods on Sunday morning with Wayne giving every squad member a run out.  There was a very strong cross breeze on the pitch but the girls adapted to the conditions very quickly and at the end of the first period the score was 1-4 to 5 points in favour of Louth with Louth’s 1st goal coming from our sharp shooter Lauren Boyle.

A great start to the second quarter with a quick goal coming after a slick movement from the throw in.  Aine Breen combined with the Cooley duo of Lauren Boyle and Niamh Rice with a tremendous finish to the net from Niamh.  Within 1 minute Laura Collins had scored a 3rd goal.  The Louth goalkeeper Rebecca Lamb Fagan playing in her 1st Senior Inter County match made a great save in a one to one situation with a wicklow forward.  Both sides made a number of changes and finished strongly with a draw being a fair result in the end.  Final score 3-6 to 1-12.

The 3rd period started with both teams making several changes to their line ups. Louth scored a great point after 4 minutes by Rebecca Carr.  The Louth backs were dominant in this period and set up a great platform for their forwards to build up a good lead.  The score at the end of the period was 1-6 to 1 point in favour of Louth. Louth’s goal came from Rebecca Carr.

Louth ran out comfortable winners in the final period with the score line 2-7 to 1-6. Louths 2nd goalcoming from Rachel Leonard. This will give our team great confidence as they move into the National Football League and the strength and depth demonstrated today augurs well for their campaign.
