Championship groups stages complete – QF and SF fixtures confirmed

Sunday 3rd October saw the conclusion of the group stages in the 2021 Senior and Intermediate Championships

In Group 1 of the Senior competition Geraldines finished on top of the group after a 1-10 to 1-04 victory over Clan na Gael in Dundalk.

Also in this group Newtown Blues secured their quarter-final spot with a 2-14 to 2-05 win over St Mochtas. The Gers, the Blues and the Clans all qualify for the quater-finals.

In Group 2, Cooley got their third win in a row over with victory over Stabannon with a final scoreline of 4-07 to 0-5, while St Patricks had a 5 point win over Roche Emmets in Lordship, 2-10 to 1-08. With three teams to qualify from this group, Roche made into the quarter-finals with Cooley and St Pats, with Stabannon unlucky to loose out.

In Group 3 St Fechins had a 7-point win over league champions St Brides to clinch top spot in this three team group. The Brides only registered a single point in the first half, while the Fechins scored 1-05, the goal coming from Catherine McGlew. They powered on in the second half with Ava Briscoe and Sara Moore scoring nine points between them overall. The final score was 1-10 to 1-03. However both teams will contest the quarter-finals, while St Kevins loose out in this group.

The draw for the Senior Championship Quarter-Finals was made on Sunday evening and produced the following pairings:

1. Roche Emmets v Newtown Blues

2. St Fechins v Clan na Gael

3. St Brides v St Patricks

4. Geraldines v Cooley Kickhams

Semi-finals will be 2 v 1 & 4 v 3.

In the Intermediate Championship, Gleann Mhairtin finished on top of Group One with three wins out of three. On Sunday they were the visitors to Tallanstown to play Glyde Rangers. The home side were much improved from the previous meeting between the teams, but the Monasterboice/Tullyallen combination built up a good lead in the first half with some good point scoring from their forwards, particularly Aoife Russell and Marie Clair Fahy. They led by 8 points at half-time. With two second-half goals from Sarah Maguire and the rest of the forwards all contributing points they ran out 2-18 to 0-08 winners in the end.

In Togher, Naomh Fionnbarra had a hard fought victory  over local rivals Dreadnots to claim the second semi-final place in this group. First half goals from Ciara McMahon and Aideen Dunne and a strong second half defensive effort laid the foundations for their win in windy conditions, eventually running out 2-09 to 0-07 winners.

In Group Two Kilkerley clinched the top spot on Sunday with a big victory over St Marys and they progress to the semi-finals along with O’Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunketts.

The semi-final pairing for the Intermediate Championship are:

Gleann Mhairtin v O’Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunketts

Kilkereley Emmets v Naomh Fionnbarra
