Saturday 23rd October 2021   Watters of Collon  Junior Championship

Haggardstown was the venue for the Ladies Junior Championship final on Saturday afternoon last.  Hunterstown won the throw-in and set the pace for the entire game, with a goal in the first minute from Mischa Rooney who having just turned fifteen was one of the youngest players on the field.  The forwards had a brilliant first quarter with Ciara Martin, Theresa Russell and Orlaith Carolan all getting their names on the scoreboard.  Midfield duo Abbie Sheridan and Ruth McElroy covered a lot of ground throughout the first half and really fought hard to win the kickouts.  Aoibheann Carolan dropped a lovely high ball just over the keepers head to extend the Hunterstown ladies growing lead.

The second half presented Hunterstown with a strong challenge from the Gaels defence, with the Hunterstown Ladies really having to fight hard. Aine Fannin rallied hard to get through the defence and once through got a goal for her efforts. The Gaels pressed hard and got two goals in quick succession.

The Hunterstown defence were much busier in the second half with Ava McNally and Mia McCartney working the ball out well and presenting Emma Gillespie the chance to pop one over the bar. Anna Hickey and Ruth Gillespe once again showed they are were not easy to get through, with strong play and determination to clear any plays from the Gaels.

The final score was Hunterstown Rover 5-14 to Dundalk Gaels 2-0.

Player of the Match went to Hunterstown Abbie Sheridan who never stopped for the entire game, through sheer determination and hard work she covered a lot of ground and passed some lovely ball to the forward line.  A well-deserved accolade for all her hard work.
