Down 1-13 Louth 0-06
Louth made the short trip to Newry for a meeting with Down at the Abbey school grounds on Sunday last.
With seven new faces in the starting line-up from their last outing against Limerick in last September’s All-Ireland final, Louth manager Darren Bishop will be pleased with the outing and also that all of the subs got some game time
With the elements in their favour it was Down who started the better and led by 0.05 to 0.01 after eighteen minutes
The Wee-County were sluggish in the opening period in what was their first outing of 2019 and were much more competitive thereafter and reduced the deficit with well taken points from Grainne Murray and Jennifer McGuinness.
They then passed up a number of good opportunities and a more clinical Down went into the break leading by 0.7 to 0.3
Louth made wholesale changes at the break and again started the half slowly with Down adding six points with Lauren Boyle and Kate Flood replying for the visitors
With a further outing planned for next Sunday, the Louth management of Darren Bishop, Brigid Russell and David Shevlin will be firmly focused on the meeting with Limerick in the N.F.L. opener on the first Sunday in February and will be encouraged by the amount of scoring chances created and also by the display of the new additions to the panel.
