SafeTALK Training in Hunterstown Rovers

Hunterstown are planning a SafeTALK training course on Thursday 22nd at 7pm. If you or somebody you know is interested in attending, please text Muiris on 087 770 9513.

What is SafeTALK?

SafeTALK is a half day training programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. These specific skills are called suicide alertness and are taught with the expectation that the person learning them will use them to help reduce suicide risk in their communities. Following a safeTALK workshop you will be more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide.

How does safeTALK help prevent suicide?

SafeTALK suicide alert helpers are trained to:

  • Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid signs of suicide
  • Identify people who have thoughts of suicide
  • Apply the TALK steps to connect a person with suicidal thoughts to people and agencies that can help

Who should attend safeTALK?

This training is suitable for everyone over 18 years of age who wants to help prevent suicide and become suicide alert.

Training is Free but booking is essential

Passing of Paddy Clarke

Louth LGFA are saddened to hear of the passing of former Louth GAA senior football manager Paddy Clarke.

Paddy made a huge contribution to the association in the county and his loss will be sorely felt.

Paddy was someone we turned to when it came to managerial appointments. Last year he was a member of our interviewing panel when we set about appointing a manager for our adult team. Indeed he was approached again this year to assist with interviews but he declined for health reasons.

Louth county teams managerial appointments

Darren Bishop will take charge of the Louth Senior Ladies football team in 2019. The Cremartin clubman was re-appointed at a County Board meeting held in the Grove hotel, Dunleer on Tuesday night.

The Castleblayney based school teacher first took charge last June following the untimely passing of Michael McKeown and guided the Wee County to success in the Leinster Junior Championship. They followed that with wins over London and Derry to book a place in the All-Ireland final where they lost out to Limerick.

Louth’s first game in the National League will be on February 3rd. They will know their opponents in early December when the league fixtures are due to be released.

Meanwhile the appointments for other county management teams were confirmed at this meeting with Chris Doyle taking the Minor team, Martin Duffy continuing as U16 manager and Mark McNamee remains in charge of the U14s for next season. All of the various backroom teams will be named in the next couple of weeks.

County Chairman Dermot Woods informed the delegates present that this year’s annual convention will take place on Monday December 3rd. The chairman revealed that new blood was urgently needed as most of the County sub-committees were operating way below the strength to be effective and that a couple of members of the executive had stood down during the year and were not replaced.

Darren Bishop ratified as Louth Ladies manager

Darren Bishop has been re-appointed as Louth Ladies manager following Tuesday’s County Board meeting.

Following a series of meetings with the County Board executive officials, chairman Dermot Woods recommended Darren to the delegates present who duly ratified his re-appointment.
