Gers win Div 1 Final, Clans win Div 3 Final and Minor Championship latest

Congratulations to Geraldines who won the Ladies Division 1 League Final on Sunday in Tallanstown, with a 4-06 to 1-06 victory over St Fechins.

Geraldines Div 1 Winners 2018

Geraldines bounced back from the disappointment of losing the Senior Championship Final as they took the Division 1 league title for the first time with a comfortable victory over St Fechins in Tallanstown on Sunday morning.

The Haggardstown side had the edge throughout and were worthy winners in a game where Rebecca Carr played a starring role as she finished with a personal tally of 2-5.

It took Carr just five minutes to make her mark on the game as she opened the scoring with a fine point. The Gers were given a huge boost soon after when a high centre from Bonnie Fleming came back off the post and Victoria Prendergast reacted quickest to send the loose ball into the net.

The Intermediate champions responded well and had points from Pamela Campbell and Catherine McGlew but just before the break Carr took centre stage when she fired in the second goal to make it 2-2 to 0-2 at the break.

The Geraldines came flying out of the blocks as Rebecca Carr grabbed a second goal and with the help of a Lorna Moriarty point they led by 3-6 to 0-3.

St Fechins were given a lifeline when Shayleen McDonagh rose highest to flick a high floated delivery from a 45 by Sara Moore to the net. Kinch and McDonnell added further points but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Carr’s free kick was finished to the net by sub Moriarty in the 56th minute.

After the match Geraldines captain Helen Ryan accepted the Cup from county Chairman Dermot Woods.

Clan na Gael Div 3 Winners 2018

Clan Na Gael took the Division 3 league title after a convincing win over Newtown Blues B in Stabanonn on Friday night. The win sees the Dundalk side make amends for their one point defeat in last year’s decider to Mattock Rangers in Knockbridge. While it was extremely comfortable in the end for Clans, it was the Blues who made the brighter start and raced in a 0.4 to 0.1 lead after only seven minutes with Sarah Dyas getting three of their points.  Shortly afterwards the game swung strongly in Clans favour as they hit two goals in as many minutes , the first coming after nine minutes when Ciara Woods went past a couple of defenders and despite having her jersey pulled she sent a rasping shot high into the net, and just a minute later  Woods was unlucky to se her shot kept out by the woodwork but from the resultant play won possession and fired to the net from 15 meters to put Clans in front for the first-time 2.1 to 0.4.

Dyas replied with a fine point from a free but Clans then hit six points without reply to lead by 2.7 to 0.5 at the break.

While Blues had the first score of the second half from Sarah Dyas after Alanna McLoughlin saw her effort hit the woodwork, Clans again put their foot on the gas and added a further 0.4 with Alanna McLoughlin, Lee Lawlor and Ciara Woods (2) all on target. Woods then completed her hat-trick with her third goal in the forty ninth minute extending their lead to 3.11 to 0.6. The Drogheda side created a number of chances as they threw caution to the wind as they flooded into attack but this left gaps at the back which Clans hungry forwards were  keen to exploit with sub Michelle McCourt putting the gloss on the scoreline when she tapped home the fourth goal after a flowing attack

After the game County Chairman Dermot Woods presented the trophy to a delighted Clans captain, Gillian O’Reilly
