With the county panel busy winning the Div 4 national football league title the Louth clubs continued their league campaigns over the weekend without their star players.
Four teams maintained their 100% records at the top of Division 1; Geraldines, St Brides, St Fechins and Roche Emmets are all on three wins out of three.
Gers had an impressive away win over St Mochtas; 2-26 to 3 points. The Brides also had a big away win over Stabannon 4-14 to 0-4, while the Fechins got the better of Clan na Gael 2-15 to 2-7 in Dundalk.
Roche had a one-point win over Cooley 11 points to 2-4, and Newtown Blues put 6 past St Pats winning at home 6-11 to 0-9.
In Division 2 St Kevins moved to the top of the table with a 0-16 to 2-3 win in Ardee St Marys on Thursday evening, but Kilkerley are also going well with two wins from two following an impressive 3-20 to 3 points away victory over Glyde on Sunday.
Also on Sunday morning Gleann Mhairtin got their first win of the campaign with a 2-11 to 0-10 win over Naomh Fionnbarra in Tullyallen. This was certainly a game of two halves with the Barrs better at taking their scoring chances in the first half. Points from forwards Grace Rogers, Aideen Dunne and Ellen Butterly and a strong defensive effort led by Katie McArdle saw them take a 7 points to 3 lead into the half-time break.
The Monasterboice/Tullyallen girls came out stronger in the second half and began to take their chances. With a Aine Carolan, Katie Murphy (who scored 4 points) and Sarah Maguire prominent in attack, they began to take their scoring chances and quickly closed the gap. A goal from distance by Nicole Tully just dropping over keeper Amy Grant’s head helped them establish a 1-05 to 7 point lead at the second half water break.
In the final quarter Gleann Mhairtin pushed home their advantage with a further goal from Sarah Maguire and points from Katie Ryan and Eili Ryan saw them run out deserved winners by 2-11 to 0-10 at the final whistle.
In Division 3A on Friday evening there was a big win for the Gers B team over Gleann Mhairtin B in Monasterboice, while the Brides B had a 1 point win over Blues B on Thursday.
In Division 3B Clans B, Fechins B, Kilkerley B and Hunterstown Rovers are setting the pace.
