Louth travelled to Newry on Sunday to start off the Intermediate Championship Campaign. But it was the Northerners that started with a bang, Before the water break Down had put up a score of 1 – 3, the goal coming from an intercepted kick-out, to Louth’s 1 point.
It was 25 degrees in Newry and an extremely hot day for football.
Wayne Freemans message at the 1st water break had the desired effect and Louth Ladies dominated the play up to half time scoring 2 points keeping Down scoreless. The score at half time Down 1-3 to Louth’s 3 points.
In what was a very low scoring match the Louth defense performed excellently and restricted down to 3 points in the second half. However while Louth Ladies managed to outscore Down in the second half they didn’t capitalise on their possession and a number of missed opportunities proved costly in the end.
Louth Ladies now look forward to a crunch tie against Offaly to decide who progresses to the next round of the Intermediate Championship. They can take confidence from a strong performance today even though the result did not go our way.
