St Kevin’s/Hunterstown 8-10 St Bride’s 2-9
St Kevin’s/Hunterstown proved much too strong over St Bride’s in a high scoring contest on Sunday morning.The Mid-Louth combination dominated from the start and led by 2-5 to 0-5 at the break with Susan Byrne and Roisin Maguire getting the goals.
There was no let up from the home side on the restart as the scores came regularly with Roisin Maguire finding the net on four occasions, three of them with her right foot, one on her left and one a flicked effort as defensive errors were ruthlessly punished by the Kevin’s/Hunterstown attackers.
However this victory, wasn’t enough to secure a semi final spot as defeat in Roche a week earlier ended the combination side’s championship hopes for another year.
Despite this loss, a win for the Bride’s in their final fixture against St Pats will see them claim a place in the semi-finals. Speaking afterwards, five-goal hero Roisin Maguire revealed that the squad was disappointed not to have made the last four.
“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t qualify for the knock out stages and quite disappointing as I would’ve liked to rectify last year’s semi-final defeat. I think we only really found our winning form towards the latter stages of the group,however we are still a young team and we’ll bring this win into our last league game now in a fortnight” explained the teenager who was modest about her tally of 5-05.
“Paula Murray and Susan Byrne played a part in two of the goals while I was fortunate to get on the end of some long deliveries. Our management believe in letting the ball do the work and it’s the job of the inside forwards to get out in front and to try and take our chances,” said Roisin.
