Shield victory a great lift for Dreadnots

Dreadnots 2-23 St Marys Ardee 2-08

Dreadnots claimed the Intermediate Shield on Friday evening in a great game against a young and upcoming St Mary’s of Ardee team.

In a very dogged first half the Dreadnots goal scored by the efficient Anne Marie Lynch. They had to weather the constant storm of attack from the St Marys half forward line. Niamh Byrne belied her young years by proving to be the rock of their defence. Captain Jill McEvoy was absolutley inspiring in her workrate and leadership and played the captains role.

Dreadnots led 1-08 to 5 points at half-time.

In the second half Anne Marie Lynch was clinical and Maura Sullivan led the line with great sense of purpose and leadership. St Marys had a number of shots on goal that Kelly Cunningham in nets saved with tiger like reflexes.

Stephanie Cunningham was POTM with relentless drive and link play while on the “40”.

It must be mentioned that Stephanie and Kelly Cunningham lost their uncle Patrick during the week and their stoicism and passion set the tone for their team mates to follow which they did.

A fitting end to an emotional week and a great lift for the village.
